The 37-year-old English Premier League midfield legend, who plied his trade to much acclaim with Chelsea, recently swapped the English capital with what some call the capital of the world: New York.
Lampard joined one of Major League Soccer's newest sides, New York City FC, last summer, after a somewhat protracted delay saw him first train and then play with Manchester City, who, along with NYCFC, also fall under the City Football Group umbrella.

He made his eagerly awaited debut in August, scoring his first goal a month later, though the team failed to make the MLS playoffs.
And Lampard, who won 13 trophies during a 13-year spell with Chelsea, is acutely aware that a similar story in the 2016 season would not be acceptable, especially with New York City FC boasting a squad containing World Cup winners Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.
"We had a difficult first year," Lampard told CNN. "We didn't perform as well as we could have done so I'm looking for improvement.
"We all want to make the playoffs, we want to try and win. I think we've got the squad with the quality to do that, so we have to go and show that."
It's been a better story off the pitch, not only for the strides made by the MLS side, but the ease in which Lampard has settled down.
"I was ready for a competitive league and great life experience. And I think I've got all of that," said Lampard, who started his career at West Ham. "I felt very much at home. Instantly actually. And I've enjoyed every bit.
"I didn't miss home and I'm very much a home boy. I love London, I love where I come from and will be back there, it will always be my first home. But my experience in New York for four or five months last year I completely enjoyed."

England expects

The MLS season will be in full swing when Lampard's home nation head for France to take part in Euro 2016, which starts on June 10.
And despite not being involved in a major tournament for the first time since the 2002 World Cup, Lampard will take a keen interest in how England fare.
"I think we've got an exciting team," explained Lampard, who represented his country 106 times. "I think there are a lot of players that have announced themselves in the last 18 months, that are going to make it really exciting for England fans.
"This tournament may be slightly early for them. I think we've got a good tournament in us over the next four to six years. But it's great to have some exciting players in the England squad."

"I really like Dele Alli," he said. "He's had a great season at Tottenham, and scored on his debut for England.
"I love midfield players who get into the box and score goals. They're all-rounders and I see a huge talent in him and a level head as well."
Alli, still only 19, has made a big impact in his first season in England's top division, scoring seven times in the EPL and establishing himself as a first-team regular at Tottenham.
The London club sits just two points off EPL leaders Leicester and is searching for a first league title since 1961.
Its attack is led by Harry Kane, another young Englishman who has caught Lampard's eye.
"Harry Kane -- he's not exactly new news as such -- he had a great year last year but it will be great for him in the international scene to sort of set his story and score some goals in a big tournament," he added.
"Raheem Sterling is an exciting player who's still young and now playing for a big club [Manchester City].
"These are all forward thinking players and exciting players. It's up to them now -- they need to prove it on the international stage."

The Vieira factor

Lampard also predicts a bright future for both MLS and the United States national side, telling CNN the USMNT could even win the World Cup within 15 years.
He is glowing about the new man at the New York City FC helm this season -- Patrick Vieira. The former Arsenal and Inter Milan star won the 1998 World Cup with France and the European Championship two years later.
After a two-year stint coaching Manchester City's development squad, the 39-year-old landed in New York in January for his first fully-fledged management job.
And having played many times against another EPL midfield colossus -- Vieira also has three English league titles to his name -- Lampard knows exactly what the Frenchman will offer the fledgling franchise.
"He'll bring experience," he said. "He was a great player for many a year so he'll bring that naturally.
"I know he's worked very hard at Manchester with the young players, he's earned his coaching stripes and he'll get respect -- everyone knows what he's achieved in the game. Everyone hopefully will lift their game up for him.
"I enjoyed playing against him, I enjoyed working alongside him at Manchester City and I look forward to having even more of a close working relationship with him."
Andre Drummond recently won his first NBA All-Star selection and the 22-year-old showcased some of his skills in a rather surprising manner ahead of this weekend's spectacle in Canada.
The 22-year-old is not known for his three-point shooting, instead for his dunks and rebounds, but he recorded the longest made shot of the season so far in the Detroit Pistons' 103-89 defeat by the Toronto Raptors.
With just seconds remaining in the third quarter, the Pistons centre tried a 'hail-Mary' shot from 71 feet that flew straight into the hoop in front of an ecstatic home support at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The last player to make a shot from that distance was Jose Calderon in 2008. Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James is still the last player to surpass Drummond's and Calderon's distance - making an 82-footer in 2007.
However, the NBA record for the longest shot belongs to Baron Davis, who made one from 89 feet against the Milwaukee Bucks while with the Charlotte Hornets in 2001.
Drummond's buzzer-beater shot on Monday reduced the scoreline to five points for Detroit as Toronto led 70-65 at the end of the third quarter.

However, the Raptors went on an 11-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter to pull away from their Eastern Conference rivals to record their 14th victory in their last 15 games.
Kyle Lowry scored 25 points while Terrence Ross added a further 18 for the Canadian franchise.
Drummond had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Pistons.
Reflecting on Drummond's mesmerising shot, Lowry said: 'That shot could have gave them some momentum, but we had the ball coming up the court, and we had to be aggressive.'

So, the mood at Old Trafford. Quietly contented, quietly confident. Manchester United are now level on points with City and, as a by-product of Premier League fragility, have implausibly ghosted into top-four contention.
The gap between themselves and a conventional route into next season’s Champions League appeared too wide three weeks ago - not anymore. Manuel Pellegrini’s side do still have a game in hand, away at Newcastle on a date yet to be confirmed, but they will be feeling some heat now.
As much as that is down to their own failings, United are beginning to hit their stride with results. The roar inside Old Trafford is back and there is a feelgood factor about the youngsters who have been forced into the spotlight given a lengthy injury list.

Added to that, Louis van Gaal is now winning the type of game he would not have done two months ago.
Wednesday against Watford was the case in point, United struggling to find fluency for large spells but taking three points after Juan Mata’s sublime late free-kick.
Odion Ighalo had an off night for the Hornets, spurning a number of sizeable opportunities and David de Gea earned his keep between the sticks.
Mata did not beat Heurelho Gomes until the 83rd minute yet there was not the restlessness usually associated with home supporters, a genuine feeling they would edge the contest. That bodes well.
City do remain in the box seat but the edginess around their rivals has subsided somewhat. It will be a worry over at the Etihad.
Van Gaal appears more relaxed than he has done all season - as if some positional burden has been released - and playing at home is an altogether calmer experience than it was earlier this year.

Floyd MayweatherUndefeated, retired boxer Floyd Mayweather has once again sparked rumours that he is interested in purchasing a stake in an NBA franchise. The 49-0 former world champion across four different weight classes is a frequent attendee at L.A Lakers and L.A Clippers fixtures and expressed and interest in the latter back in 2014, following the Donald Sterling saga

.At the press conference for the Adrien Broner and Ashley Theophane fight - two boxers Mayweather has a vested interest in - 'Money' suggested he may be ready to move away from the lavish sports gambling that's ensued since his retirement and follow his dream to become an NBA owner.

Michael JordanMichael Jordan's wealth continues to grow as retirement goes on, and he was named on Forbes' 'World Billionaire' list for the second time.
The Chicago Bulls legend and current Charlotte Hornets owner was ranked as the 1,577th richest person on the planet - a 164 place jump from the previous year - with a net worth valued at $1.14 billion. He is the 486th richest in the United States of America.
Almost half of his assets are attached to the Charlotte Hornets. His initial investment in the Eastern Conference franchise was $175 million and his current 90 percent share is valued at around $500 million, which is likely a low estimate given the steep increase in purchase figures surrounding sports teams.
The greatest of all time has built his wealth around basketball, and his Jordan Brand deal with clothing manufacturer Nike has grown at an unprecedented rate since being founded in 1984.
Jordan's are the most sought after basketball trainers in the world and the 30th iteration of the sneakers, that were released in February, were a resounding success. The company had just made its first billion in sales back in 2006 and is now pushing the $3 billion mark.

Tiger Woods has revealed being unable to play with his children left him at a low ebb a couple of months ago, but he is much more positive now about his recovery from back surgery.
The 40-year-old cut a downbeat figure at a press conference ahead of December's Hero World Challenge, having undergone a third back operation in the space of 19 months in October.
While Woods, who has not played since the Wyndham Championship in August, reiterated that there is no timetable for his return to competitive golf, he is in better spirits.

He said on a video broadcast on www.golfchannel.com: 'When I was there in December at the Hero, I wasn't feeling very good and you could see it all over me.
'I couldn't play with my kids; I wasn't able to throw and play catch with my son. What father and son don't actually play catch? But I'm getting there and I'm able to participate more in their lives, I'm able to start doing things more with them and part of that is playing golf and going out there chipping and putting with (son) Charlie and having him beat me. It's been tough at times but it's been a lot of fun.
'One thing I do know is I am progressing, I'm getting better, I'm getting stronger and I have to just take it day by day.

'I still have to get stronger, I still have to get more flexible. There's still a lot I have to do before I can go out and play.'
Woods admits pushing through the pain barrier earlier in his career may be partially to blame for the injury woes he has suffered in recent years.
He memorably won the last of his 14 major titles at the 2008 US Open despite visibly struggling with an injury which required surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament, forcing him to miss the remainder of that year.
He added: 'This is a different injury than I've had in the past. It's not my knee, it's not where it's nine months and I'm coming back from a total ACL reconstruction, that's normal.
Woods famously won the last of his 14 majors at the 2008 US Open despite suffering from a knee injury
'When dealing with nerves, there is no timetable and everyone heals differently and every nerve is slightly different. That part is the most frustrating part of it, there's no exact timetable.
'I've played through a lot of injuries, I've played through some situations I probably shouldn't have played, won some tournaments I probably shouldn't have won, but I've cost myself other tournaments by pushing through that and I've cost myself months and years because of it.
'But that's what athletes do; we play through pain, we deal with injuries, it's a part of playing sport.'

Rabat will become the first African city to host a Diamond League meeting later this year, but New York has been dropped from the calendar.
The Moroccan capital will host this season's third meeting on 22 May.
IAAF president Lord Coe said in a statement: "We are pleased to be able to take our premier athletics series into a new continental area."
The New York organisers said they would look to produce a new event, with a "street meet" under consideration.
The United States retains one Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon.

Manny Pacquiao has received an invitation to compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio ‒ but Floyd Mayweather has 'absolutely' no intention of making a surprise return to the Games.
Top professional boxers will become eligible to compete in this summer's Olympics under radical new proposals being pushed through by the sport's world governing body, AIBA.
In light of the decision, which is yet to be confirmed, it has emerged that AIBA president, Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, has personally invited Pacquiao to compete in Brazil.

According to the Philippine Star, the idea was initially discussed when Pacquiao flew to Doha, Qatar for the AIBA World Championships last October.
It is believed Pacquiao, who is preparing for his fight with Timothy Bradley in April, is wanted to compete at the Games as the sport's world governing body bids to attract the biggest names to Rio.
However, retired boxer Floyd Mayweather has revealed he has no intention of making a shock return to the ring at the Olympics.
Mayweather, who won bronze at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, retired undefeated with a record of 49-0 after defeating Andre Berto in September.
'Absolutely not,' said the 39-year-old when asked if he is considering a return to the ring.
'For my body to recover from all my fights will be for the rest of my life. I'm truly blessed to have been fighting for so much of my life.
'I had a great run. Ain't no more for this body to heal but rest.'

International Boxing Association president Ching-Kuo Wu hopes to push through proposals in time for Rio

Until now only amateur boxers have been allowed to compete in Olympics, but professional boxers could appear in the summer.
Dr Ching-Kuo Wu has indicated that the last remaining barriers preventing full-time professionals competing in the Games are set to be abolished within a matter of months.
Wu said: 'We want the best boxers to come to the Olympic Games. It is AIBA's 70th birthday, and we want something to change - not after four years, but now.
'It is an IOC policy to have the best athletes in the Games, and of the international federations, AIBA is probably the only one without professional athletes in the Olympics.
'We already have our own professionals, APB and WSB boxers, in the Games - [and] we will go further.'

But former World and Olympic champion Lennox Lewis has labelled the proposal to allow professional boxers to compete at the Olympics as 'preposterous'.
The British fighter won super-heavyweight gold for Canada at the 1988 games in Seoul before turning professional, and fears the potential safety consequences of the plan.
Lewis told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme: 'I kind of think it is preposterous, to a certain degree. The amateur system is based for amateurs - this is why we put in the headgear to protect them because they have a lack of experience and they are not that primed as a professional yet.
'Now all of a sudden, you get a world champion or somebody in the top 10 as a professional now going against basically an amateur, somebody with a lack of experience - I don't look at that as being fair.'

This is the most unpredictable Premier League title race in history.
Whether that is due to a lack of quality, TV money tilting the balance sheets in the smaller club’s favour or just sheer, good old-fashioned luck, it is making for a tantalising finale. The established order is finally being eroded away after years of domination from a few select teams and it is anyone’s guess as to who will eventually lift the trophy in May.
Here, Sportsmail assesses the final run-ins of Leicester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City and even Manchester United — plus the chasing pack who are not far behind.
Leicester duo Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez celebrate against NewcastleThe Premier League table
Leicester City
Story so far..
They are the story. Tipped by many (including myself) to go down, Claudio Ranieri is leading the side towards one of the great upsets in English football’s history.
Rate the run-in…
Only Manchester United and Chelsea of the ‘big’ clubs remain, but it’s not like either of those hold much fear for sides this season. West Ham and Everton could pose tricky tests. But really, the title is theirs for the taking.
Reasons to be cheerful…
Regardless of what happens, they are virtually guaranteed Champions League football.
Reasons to be fearful…
Teams outside the established top five just don’t win the league. It’s unheard of.Leicester City have been the story of the Premier League season and the title is theirs for the taking
Tottenham Hotspur
Story so far…
If it wasn’t for Leicester, Spurs would be the story. They have managed to go about the business of being underdogs-turned-favourites in relative tranquillity.
Rate the run-in…
Still to play: A massive north London derby, two tough legs in the Europa League against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and possibly more, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea. Ominous.
Reasons to be cheerful…
Their manager, Mauricio Pochettino, always has a smile on his face and is one of football’s good guys. Again, delivering Champions League football, regardless of if they fail to win the title, will be success.
Reasons to be fearful…
The Europa League could potentially be a real hindrance to their chances, especially if they go further in the competition.
Tottenham have a huge north London derby this weekend but are still one of the favourites for the title

Arsenal
Story so far…
Same old Arsenal, always placing themselves in with a shot and then dismally falling away (not quite got the same ring to it as the original terrace chant). Six points adrift of the lead and not looking like they have they fight to recover that.
Rate the run-in…
Manchester City, on the penultimate game of the season, could be massive. Or it could be a battle for third place. West Ham and Everton remain two other tough ties. Arsene Wenger will not be too put off by the upcoming opponents, though.
Reasons to be cheerful…
They are almost certainly going out of the Champions League but still in the FA Cup, enabling them to concentrate on a domestic double.
Reasons to be fearful…

Story so far…
Easily the strongest squad in England, by quite some way, and they are displaying some diabolical form. Given Chelsea and Manchester United’s demise, they should have walked this title. Instead, they are 10 points behind.
Rate the run-in…
Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are still to play and they arguably need victories in all of their games between now and the end of the season to win it.

He might be leading them in the Europa League.

Manchester United
Story so far…
Miraculously in with a shot at the title. They have been accused of playing boring football by their fans and Louis van Gaal has been under immense pressure. But they’re still going.
Rate the run-in…
It is ugly. In the two cups they remain in, they have tough draws versus West Ham (FA Cup) and Liverpool (Europa League, two legs). On top of that they have City, Everton, Spurs and Leicester in the league.
Reasons to be cheerful…
Fans will forever be able to watch YouTube replays of Van Gaal taking a touchline tumble.
Reasons to be fearful…
What has happened to the Manchester United of old?
