Saturday's fight between Guillermo Rigondeaux and James 'Jazza' Dickens has been cancelled after the Cuban was unable to secure a UK visa.
The super-bantamweights were due to fight in Liverpool, but a statement released by Queensberry Promotions last night confirmed that Rigondeaux, who had been training in Russia, had failed to obtain the necessary paperwork and had returned to his base in Miami.
Dickens had sought answers from Rigondeaux following rumours that their showdown was in doubt, with the Englishman yesterday tweeting his rival: 'Sorry to call you out like this champ, and with all due respect, are you coming to Liverpool to fight me? Yes or no?x'

His answer soon arrived in the form of a lengthy statement from the English promotional outfit, which questioned why Rigondeaux had flown to the United States when he was still apparently in the process of securing a UK visa via the UK Visa Application Centre in Moscow.
The statement read: 'Yesterday (Tuesday) and for some unexplained reason, unbeknown to both QP and Roc Nation Sports, Rigondeaux boarded a flight to Miami and arrived in the USA on Tuesday afternoon. We have yet to establish how and why he flew to the USA and further, how he managed to fly anywhere when the normal practice is, when applying for a visa, that you hand your passport in and get it back when the visa is issued.

'Strangely, Rigondeaux left Moscow at a time when both the Application Centre and Consulate were still closed. He has yet to explain to RNS, who are as much in the dark as QP, as to how and why he has arrived in the USA and why he was in possession of his passport which should, as is standard protocol, have been presented to the Visa Application Centre.
'We are all extremely disappointed by the whole situation as Rigondeaux will not appear this Saturday and Dickens will not get the chance, that he has trained so hard for, to fight the world’s best super-bantamweight in front of his own fans.'
Rigondeaux is widely recognised as a top 10 pound-for-pound fighter, having won his first world title in only his ninth fight. That followed a glittering amateur career in which he won bantamweight gold medals at the Sydney and Athens Olympics.

Heather Watson followed up winning the Monterrey Open on Sunday by beating Galina Voskoboeva in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Britain's number two overcame the Kazakh in three sets, prevailing 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-1 in front of her mother Michelle.
Watson started strongly, taking a 2-0 lead in the first set. But her opponent fought back, leaving Watson to hold her serve and force a tie-break.

The tie-break followed a similar pattern, with Watson going 2-0 ahead only to be pegged back. She again held her nerve, though, to take the first set.
Next it was Voskoboeva's turn to hold a 2-0 lead, and she turned that into a 6-4 win in the second.
Watson responded in style, not only going 2-0 up in the deciding set but finding a fine passing shot to turn that into a three-game advantage. She soon wrapped up the match in just under two-and-a-half hours.
'When it was important I was able to bring out my best tennis,' Watson said. 'Today I was a bit slow getting used to the court. It was a bit different (to the Monterrey Open).'

Jurgen Klopp put his Liverpool players through their paces ahead of what he has described as 'the mother of all games'.
Liverpool's players looked in high spirits as they put the final touches on their preparations for the club's first ever European showdown against rivals Manchester United.
Christian Benteke, fresh from the late controversy at Selhurst Park at the weekend, Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen were among the players who trained with a beaming smile on their face ahead of the must-win match.

Former Manchester City midfielder James Milner is a major doubt for Thursday night's clash at Anfield due to a virus.
The England international was sent home from the training ground in order to stop the illness spreading to his team-mates.
German tactician Klopp will be hoping to exact revenge on opposite number Louis van Gaal for the first time during the current campaign.
Van Gaal holds a 2-0 lead over Liverpool this season following Manchester United's victories at Old Trafford and Anfield.
Their most recent meeting, which took place in January, saw the Red Devils come away from Anfield with three points thanks to a 78th-minute goal by Wayne Rooney.
Klopp, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said of their most recent meeting: 'Maybe we didn’t play absolutely the best but we did enough to win. Sometimes it’s like that.
'They’ve won the last four between us but it means nothing – it would mean more if they were much better and had much more quality but it’s pretty close.
'I'd say we’re both in a good moment. OK they lost their last game but there has been a lot of pressure on Louis van Gaal and Manchester United and they handled it really well and they came through.
'I said after draw I was really happy, not because I think it’s really easy but because it’s exciting and I didn’t know it was the first time Liverpool have played Manchester United in Europe. It’s a great tournament.'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic left Stamford Bridge last year under a cloud after his sending-off almost cost Paris St Germain their place in the Champions League.
He walked out of Chelsea's stadium a hero on Wednesday, however, after scoring one goal and setting up another as the French champions knocked their English counterparts out of the Champions League 4-2 on aggregate.
The 34-year-old Swedish striker, who also scored in the first leg in Paris, gave Chelsea's defence the slip in the 16th minute to provide a cross for Adrian Rabiot to open the scoring.

Then, in the 67th minute, with the scores level at 1-1 and PSG ahead 3-2 on aggregate, Ibrahimovic volleyed home from a cross by Angel di Maria to kill off a Chelsea fightback and put PSG's place in the quarter finals beyond doubt.
'I was born old but I feel young. I get younger as I go on and I am very happy young man tonight,' he said.
'It is a very different feeling to last year. This is not revenge, it is success, a very sweet success against a very tough opponent.'
PSG coach Laurent Blanc said Ibrahimovic had been performing well in the French League this season but he had not managed to quieten his critics until now.

'You guys always had your doubts because he was playing in Ligue 1, you asked if he was able to give a performance like that in the Champions League,' Blanc said.
'He gave us his answer tonight.'
'It won't necessarily give him confidence because he has enormous self-confidence, but he scored the decisive goal and made another and this performance will do him good,' Blanc said.

'We will get the benefit of that, me as coach, the players and the club.'
Defeated Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink paid tribute to Ibrahimovic too, saying his physical and mental strength as well as his tactical sense meant the striker would be in demand if PSG do not renew his contract at the end of this season.
'He's not the youngest but even at his age, for a footballer he's doing well,' Hiddink said.
'He can adapt himself with his personality to any league in the world.'
